The mission of the Long Island History Committee
is to promote awareness of the scope
of resources available in public libraries,
archives, museums, colleges and universities
for the study of Long Island history,
and to explore the ways
in which these resources can be employed
most effectively in a public library environment.



Preservation and Conservation Resources

Resources for library Local History Collections, including disaster preparedness and recovery resources.

The RASD / Local History Committee planned its annual trip to one of the historic museums on Long Island. The William Floyd Estate located at 245 Park Drive in Mastic Beach, New York on Thursday, May 29th at 10:15 am. Two hundred and fifty years of history of history are preserved at the William Floyd Estate, which contains architectural features and artifacts from three centuries of American life. The Estate, was donated to Fire Island National Seashore in 1965, and is the ancestral home for the Floyd family. William Floyd, a Revolutionary War general and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, was born in the house in 1734. The cost of the tour is $3.00 and lunch is $20.00. Lunch will be at the Manor House, 1443 Montauk Highway, Mastic, NY. The menu includes choice of soup or salad, Veal Parmesan over linguini, Penne ala Vodka with or without chicken , Chicken Francaise over pasta, or sliced marinated steak sandwich with a choice of potato. Dessert is ice cream or cake. Includes soda, coffee or tea.
