The November 13 YASD Meeting Minutes are now available. Our next meeting will be on December 11 at Emma S. Clark Memorial Library from 10-11:30 a.m.
Be a leader in one of the most exciting library divisions in Suffolk County. YASD is designed for librarians who work with tweens and teens helping them to find innovative ways to bring youth into our libraries.
We currently have openings for Vice President/President Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer to serve alongside Tracy Van Dyne, 2009 President. The terms of service for Vice President/President Elect is 2 years; for Secretary and Treasurer 1 year.
Interested candidates should submit a brief letter of interest that includes the position you are interested in and why you are qualified for the position. Submit your questions and statement of interest to Candace Reeder at creeder@suffolk.lib.ny.us by October 17, 2008.

Mail your $26 check made payable to YASD to Margie Hartough at Half Hollow Hills Community Library (fee includes a buffet lunch, drinks and dessert) by October 2.
Save the dates! Our next YASD meeting will be on Thursday, September 11 from 9:30 - 11 a.m. at the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library. Agenda topics include summer reading clubs and online registration.
The Annual Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, October 16 from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the 56th Fighter Group. Guest author Melissa de la Cruz will discuss how she entered the literary world, her writing process, upcoming novels, and more. Melissa is the author of several popular series for tweens and teens including The Blue Bloods, The Au Pairs, Angels on Sunset Boulevard, and The Ashleys, as well as short story and non-fiction collections. The cost of the program is $26 per person and includes a buffet lunch, drinks and dessert. Further details to follow.
Our next meeting will be on June 12, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Smithtown Library- Main Building. Beginning at 10 a.m., we will be discussing this year's Summer Reading Club theme, Metamorphosis @ Your Library. At 11a.m. we will have a special author presentation by Sarah Beth Durst, author of Into the Wild and Out of the Wild.

The Fourth Annual Fran Romer Memorial Teen Services Workshop was held on March 27, 2008 with much success. Find out more about the Fran Romer Workshop, including speaker presentations, themed bibliographies, workshop handouts and pictures are now available.
Do you know a teen that has made a significant contribution to your library? Honor the teen by nominating him/her for the 2008 B.E.S.T. Award.The deadline for applications is April 4.

YASD is proud to host the Fourth Annual Fran Romer Memorial Teen Services Workshop on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Harborfields Public Library. Join us for a day of discussion, networking, and learning with public and school media librarians serving teens. Registration is now underway- Registration Form
They have the YAttitude! Members of this YA division meet monthly to exchange ideas, information and expertise on how to get and keep the attention of their special public.
Our next meeting, Fun and Games in the Library, will be on February 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at SCLS. It will be a joint SCLS and Suffolk/Nassau YASD meeting. Take a look at our flyer and agenda.
