Fran Romer was a Young Adult Librarian at the Northport-East Northport Public Library, but her influence has been felt by teens and librarians throughout the county- in large part through her work on the Executive Board of the Young Adult Services Division (YASD) of the Suffolk County Library Association (SCLA).
The Fourth Annual Fran Romer Memorial Teen Services Workshop is on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Harborfields Public Library. This year's theme is Teens and the Characters They Love: Celebrating Series Books for Teens and will feature Keynote Speaker Stacy L. Creel, professor at St. John's University and VOYA Editor, and guest booktalker Lorraine Squires, YA Librarian at Mastic- Moriches-Shirley Community Library and VOYA Paperback Series Roundup columnist.
Previous Workshops
The Third Annual Fran Romer Memorial Teen Services Workshop was held on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at the Northport Public Library. The topic was "What Teens Want: What's Hot and What's Not."
We were proud to host Patrick Jones as our keynote speaker. Patrick discussed Connecting with Reluctant Teen Readers: Tips, Titles, and Tools. Back by popular demand, New York Public Library's Teen Central Librarians Melissa Jenvey and Anne Rouyer demonstrated the Art of the Booktalk.
