logoThe Printz Award is an annual award given to a book that exemplifies excellence in Young Adult literature. Each year, librarians from Suffolk and Nassau County gather to hold their own Mock Printz Workshop to determine the most outstanding book of the year. This event is sponsored by the Suffolk Cooperative Library System and Nassau Library System.

On January 8, 2010, librarians gathered at the South Huntington Public Library to present thoughtful defenses and discuss the literary merits of 9 books nominated for the 2010 Mock Printz Award. After much deliberation, here are the results:

Winner: Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson
Honor: Marcelo in the Real World by Francisco X. Stork

Other nominated titles:
Charles and Emma: the Darwins' Leap of Faith by Deborah Heiligman
The Eternal Smile: Three Stories by Gene Luen Yang & Derek Kirk
