Our guest speaker will be Kelvin Watson of the Queens Library in NY. Mr. Watson will be speaking on his experience in the development of a lending program for the 5000 Google Nexus tablets they received through the Hurricane Sandy grant initiative. Queens Library patrons are able to borrow the tablets, with specifically chosen applications, for a maximum four month stretch. Come hear his first hand experience, pros, cons and best practices in launching this fantastic program!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Additional agenda items:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Ruth Westfal<\/b>\u00a0will lead a discussion regarding the Sierra implementation process, a rough timeline and Q&amp;A on what we know so far. Any other questions can be researched and responded to at a later time.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Louis DeRobertis<\/b>\u00a0will lead a discussion regarding a new, inexpensive solution for an OPAC.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Brief bio of our guest speake<\/b>r:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Kelvin Watson is the Director of E-Content Services and Strategy at Queens Library. His primary responsibilities have been to move Queens Library\u2019s e-book initiatives forward, along with developing other digitally-delivered content in English and other languages.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Before coming to Queens, Kelvin served as the Branch Head, Acquisitions &amp; Collection Development at the National Agricultural Library (NAL) in Maryland. In that role, he directed the formulation of current and long-range national resource collection policies, plans and programs, and coordinated those efforts within the organizational units of NAL and other Government agencies, land-grant institutions and related organizations, and managed a materials budget over $4,000,000.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Prior to accepting his position with the National Agricultural Library he was the Director of Business Development for The Library Corporation, a library automation company, and was the product owner for the Online Selection Assistant. Prior to TLC, he held several leadership roles in sales and marketing with Borders Group, Inc. At Ingram Book Group\/Ingram Library Services, Kelvin held leadership roles in sales, marketing, collection development, warehouse management (logistics) and library technical services. Kelvin has also served as a Commissioned Officer in the Active US Army and Army Reserves.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Kelvin has a BS in Business Administration and a Minor in Military Science from Lincoln University (MO). He also has his Masters Library Science from North Carolina Central University. Kelvin is an ALA, AASL, and RUSA Spectrum Scholar.
