Microaggressions in the Library

Join us for LEOC’s first program, presented in partnership with LILPA! Join Charles Fox, Director of Diversity & Development for the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk, for a solutions focused conversation about microaggressions. Learn what microaggressions are and how to recognize them, then learn strategies for responding to them from colleagues and patrons alike.

All SCLA and NCLA members are welcome.

Welcome to the LEOC Website

Welcome to LEOC

Welcome to the website for the Suffolk County Library Association’s (SCLA) new committee, the Library Employees of Color (LEOC) Committee. LEOC has been formed to provide support and encouragement for library employees of color across the county. The committee is managed by a team of 3-4 chairpersons appointed by SCLA serving 2-year terms.

LEOC’s purpose is as follows:

  • Provide a forum that offers support and encouragement to library workers of color in Suffolk County
  • Provide a place for library staff to exchange ideas on establishing services that celebrate and represent the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) colleagues and communities they serve
  • Facilitate continuing education opportunities related to the concerns and experiences of BIPOC library workers

To share questions, comments, or to learn more about LEOC, please email leoc.scla@gmail.com.
