BYLAWS
The Library Employees of Color Committee of the Suffolk County Library Association
Name
This committee shall be known as the Library Employees of Color (LEOC) Committee of the Suffolk County Library Association (SCLA).
Objective/Mission Statement
Provide a forum that offers support and encouragement to library workers of color in Suffolk County, as well as a place to exchange ideas on how library staff can establish services celebrating and representing the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) colleagues and communities they serve.
Membership
This committee is open to all BIPOC members of SCLA, as well as non-BIPOC members who are interested in learning and supporting their colleagues.
Officers
LEOC will be led by a group of 3 or 4 chairpersons.
The president of SCLA shall appoint chairpersons as needed.
Sitting chairpersons may recommend SCLA members for appointment to current or upcoming vacancies.
All chairpersons must be members of SCLA.Chairpersons will serve 2-year terms.
Chairpersons may serve multiple consecutive terms.
Chairperson responsibilities will be divided as follows:
Webmaster (1) – this chairperson establishes and maintains the LEOC webpage.
Newsletter (1) – this chairperson collects and disseminates a quarterly newsletter of activities and updates relevant to LEOC.
Program Facilitators (1-2) – these chairpersons contact and book speakers and venues for programming planned by LEOC.
All chairpersons share responsibility for the following:
Attending monthly SCLA Executive Board meetings, with 1 chairperson in attendance at each meeting. Rotation to be determined by sitting chairpersons.
Planning committee programming and events.
Meetings
The membership will meet bimonthly, with meetings held in February, April, June, August, October, and December.
Amendments
Amendments to the bylaws will be decided by a majority vote of the SCLA Executive Board. This committee will abide by all rules and regulations set forth by the SCLA Executive Board.
