CARE (Career and Resource Exchange) Long Island Cares Event Thursday, February 14 at 2:00 pm

The CARE (Career and Resource Exchange) committee will be hosting a speaker from Long Island Cares on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Suffolk County Library System in Bellport.

Lisa Owens will be discussing the services provided by Long Island Cares. Long Island Cares brings together all available resources for the benefit of the hungry and food insecure on Long Island and provides for the humanitarian needs of the community. Their goals are to improve food security for families, sponsor programs that help families achieve self-sufficiency, and educate the general public about the causes and consequences of hunger on Long Island.

John Keating from Strategic Staffing will speak about employment coaching for people with disabilities. Strategic Staffing works directly with people with disabilities, as well as helping parents find suitable employment options for their young adult children with disabilities. Strategic Staffing offers one-on-one counseling, full-day workshops, and online webinars. Please join us for coffee at 2:00 p.m.; the presentation starts at 2:30 p.m.

Please join the CARE (Career and Resource Exchange) Committee of RASD for our November 16 meeting at Suffolk County Library System.

Dave Sullivan from the Family Service League will join us to talk about the Flexible Employment Program. This program provides vocational services to individuals with disabilities and is sponsored by the NY State Department of Education ACCES-VR. The program offers diagnostic evaluations and teaches computer skills, interviewing, job search skills, development skills, and placement. The organization also offers aftercare support and vocational counseling. The Family Service League serves people with mental health conditions, developmental disabilities, substance abuse issues, legal histories, and physical disabilities.
