Health Concerns Committee Reference and Adult Services Division of SCLA Annual Breakfast! Substance Abuse & Suffolk County: Information & Resources for Library Workers Presented By Patricia Ferrandino, Family Service League Tuesday, November 8 - 9:30am SCLS Auditorium - 627 Sunrise Hwy, Bellport Join us for breakfast and a special presentation by Patricia Ferrandino, LCSW-R from Family Service League to learn about the current circumstances of substance abuse in Suffolk County. She will provide background information about different popular substances that are often abused, as well as the resources that are available across the county that library workers can refer people to for assistance. Health Concerns Committee Reference and Adult Services Division of SCLA Presents: Navigating Consumer Health Information Presented By Jessica Koos, MLS, MSEd, AHIP: Thursday, September 29 - 2:30pm Navigating consumer health information can be a daunting task, but fear not! This class will give you the skills and confidence you need in order to provide reliable resources to patrons and loved ones. This train-the-trainer model will introduce how to effectively use various websites and tools in the following areas: general consumer health, local health information, and up-to-date COVID-19 data. Tips and tricks for identifying misinformation will also be covered. Join us, and learn how to lead your community along the right path to better health! To be presented live via Zoom! Download an application now!The Suffolk Library Excellence in Outreach Award recognizes exceptional achievement in library outreach services in Suffolk County, a commission of the Outreach Committee of the Reference and Adult Services Division of the Suffolk County Library Association. What is the purpose of the SLEOA Award? The Suffolk Library Excellence in Outreach Award recognizes the achievements of a public or academic library that has made outstanding contributions to the development, promotion, and implementation of outreach services in the local community. Who is Eligible? Any public or academic librarian in Suffolk County may submit an application on behalf of a public or academic library in Suffolk County describing outreach endeavors between October 1, 2021 and October 1, 2022. Applications must be submitted by active members of the Suffolk County Library Association. How is an Entry Submitted? ▪ The deadline to submit an application for the 2022 SLEOA is November 1, 2022. ▪ Completed applications and supporting documentation must be emailed to acollumbell@smithlib.org ▪ Include your name and the name of your library in the subject line of the email that you send. Omit your name and the name of your library in the application and any supporting documentation you submit listing accomplishments in providing outreach services, such as but not limited to programming, community partnerships, innovative implementation of unique ideas, and promotion of library services. ▪ Incomplete or late entries will be disqualified.
