Career and Business Reference Services Committee (C & B) is a group of librarians whose mission is to share and promote career services, business reference resources, and information services to library professionals with the goal of educating members of their communities.

Emerging Technologies Committee
The mission of the Emerging Technologies Committee is to build awareness of new and emerging technologies and incorporate rapidly changing technologies into libraries. This Committee provides a forum to discuss and assess the impact of technology-based services on library users and improve the library’s virtual presence.

Health Concerns
The purpose of this committee is to explore and exchange information about health related resources on topics of interest to public, school, academic and special library patrons. Its objectives are to produce a bibliography and arrange a program on a selected topic each year at a reference workshop at SCLS.

Library Marketing Committee
This committee was created to advance knowledge in the best ways and means of marketing library programs and services. The committee sponsors roundtable discussions, along with workshops, speakers, and the annual Suffolk Library Marketing Award competition.

Local History
The mission of the Local History Committee is to provide a forum for its members to share and discuss the various matters related to management of local history collections.
In addition, the committee seeks to promote awareness of resources available in libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, historic sites, colleges and universities, as well as other similar institutions, and to explore ways in which these resources can be utilized to effectively foster a better understanding of the region’s local history in the broader community.

Long Island Reads
One Book is a project of the Nassau Library System and the Suffolk County Library System that brings Long Islanders together during National Library week every April to read the same book, participate in discussions, and enjoy related events in public libraries.

Reader’s Advisory Committee
This committee focuses on a different genre at each session. Members read books in advance and do a brief book talk and annotation at their meeting. An annotated bibliography is then printed on the RASD homepage.
