Tuesday, April 12, 2011 is National Library Workers Day (NLWD).  “Libraries Work Because We Do!”

“NLWD is a day for library staff, users, administators, and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contibutions made by all library workers.”

Also of interest is the ALA Allied Professional Association (ALA-APA).  It is a “companion organization to ALA promoting the mutual professional interests of librarians and other library staff.”  The link is http://ala-apa.org/.

ANNUAL ROUNDTABLE

Come join your colleagues for a morning of discussion and resource sharing on March 30, 2011 at the Sachem Public Library by attending the SSD Annual Roundtable.  Refreshments will be served at 9:30 am and the Roundtable will begin at 10:00 am.  Send topic suggestions via e-mail to sclshr@suffolknet.org or in the System bag to Teri Hatred, SCLS.

Registration is required.  There is a $5.00 registration fee for non-members which is refundable if you join SSD prior to the Roundtable.  SSD members attend for free.  Click here for a registration form.

Be a Member:

Members receive Suffolk Libraries SCLA informative newsletter, a membership handbook and directory, discounts on fees for conferences, workshops, seminars and special events, CEU’s for many events, participation in the SCLA listserv and an invitation to attend SCLA’s annual dinner. Members also have an opportunity to network with others in similar work environments. Members are also eligible to run for elected SSD executive board positions.

Annual Events:

All of the events produced by the Support Staff Division of the SCLA are geared towards helping library support staff to achieve goals, entertaining the library support staff and educating the library support staff. Some examples of the SSD annual events are:

Luncheon:

Where you are treated to a motivational keynote speaker and a hearty lunch.

Roundtable:

Where you can mingle with support staff from other libraries with similar job functions to help improve your skills.

Educational Support:

Be it your work environment or your personal life the SSD sponsored educational programs are designed to help.
Computer Training where you can learn new programs such as Microsoft Excel and Publisher.
Civil Service Workshops where you can get the heads up along with helpful hints about civil service exams.
