SSD 2nd ANNUAL SAFETY CONFERENCE 2017
The SSD Annual Membership Meeting and 2nd Safety Conference was a huge success! Over 60 people attended the event which was held at the Brentwood Public Library on Wednesday, October 18th from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tim Sini, Suffolk County Police Department Commissioner, was our Keynote Speaker and addressed the opioid crisis, community relations and the lower crime rate in Suffolk County. Patrick Beckley, Regional Director NYS Homeland Security and Emergency Services for Long Island, gave an update on emergencies that have occurred so far in 2017 and the improvements to equipment and procedures that have been put in place. Lee Mandel, CEO of Intralogic Solutions, gave a presentation of his product that links all building alarm systems together making them more efficient and quicker – a lock down in 15 seconds as opposed to 15 minutes! Intralogic Solutions also sponsored the lunch served at the Conference. SCPD P.O. Raymond Sitler addressed the topic of Autism and other mental health conditions and how to respond to a crisis involving a patron with one of these health issues. SCPD Police Officers John Wright, Peter Rivera and Eiffel Ramirez informed the attendees on community liaison and its importance to the community. The Officers encouraged all libraries to reach out to their precinct COPE officers and develop programs together to address each community’s needs. And our last presenters of the day, Christopher Kandell and Adam Kuemmel of the NYS Board of Health Sanitation, explained proper food handling to prevent the spread of disease. FIOS 1 News was on hand to tape the conference: http://www.fios1news.com/longisland/local-lockdown-security-conference-oct-18-2017#.WeodgztryUk
