This year’s legislative breakfast will be held online. Register for links. Please make time and join us that day to thank the legislature for their support.
There will be changes to how and what Advocacy Day looks like next year. No longer will there be a big one day event where NYLA asks membership to send up buses of people. As the NYLA Leg Committee figures out what our future advocacy efforts look like I will report back to the executive committee.

The NCLA Young Adult Services Division (YASD) is hosting our annual Joint Meeting with SCLA YASD on Thursday, February 27th, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. at the Massapequa Public Library’s Bar Harbour building. We will be having a panel of public and school librarians and a public school teacher to discuss how to best serve our teens with special needs.

Learn some best practices for working with teens with special needs from a
panel of librarians featuring Christa Lucarelli, Assistant Director of the
Farmingdale Public Library, Michael Ambrosio, Special Needs Coordinator at
the Oceanside Library, Kristina Holzweiss, Educational Technology Enrichment
Specialist from the Syosset High School Innovation Lab, and Evangeline King,
School Media Specialist & Kathleen Wegner, Special Education Teacher, from
the Massapequa High School Ames Campus.
Topics discussed will include how schools and school libraries engage their
students, how libraries can support school curriculum and behavior plans, how
public libraries can build and support sensory friendly environments, and how
public library programs can be made more inclusive to teens with special needs.
