Seed libraries are popping up all around Long Island. Libraries are realizing seed libraries are a great way to engage gardeners in our community. We are also traditionally very good at saving, collecting and sharing items! What’s the best way to operate a seed library? Let’s get together to discuss best practices and share our ideas!

Learn some best practices for working with teens with special needs from a
panel of librarians featuring Christa Lucarelli, Assistant Director of the
Farmingdale Public Library, Michael Ambrosio, Special Needs Coordinator at
the Oceanside Library, Kristina Holzweiss, Educational Technology Enrichment
Specialist from the Syosset High School Innovation Lab, and Evangeline King,
School Media Specialist & Kathleen Wegner, Special Education Teacher, from
the Massapequa High School Ames Campus.

Topics discussed will include how schools and school libraries engage their
students, how libraries can support school curriculum and behavior plans, how
public libraries can build and support sensory friendly environments, and how
public library programs can be made more inclusive to teens with special needs.

Long Island Reads 2020 pick is in.

RASD Media Committee @ Sayville

Location Change

Hello all,
For anyone that was looking to attend our next RASD Media meeting next week on the 29th, the venue has changed to Sayville Library.  We will be hosting in our community meeting room A/B.  The library opens at 10am but we will let all attendees in starting at 9:30am.  The library is located at 88 Greene Ave in Sayville and parking spots can sometimes be difficult to find close to 10am.

RASD PR & Marketing Meeting January 16th @ SCLS

All are invited to our annual meeting where we catch up on new marketing trends and view the entrees from the 2019 SLMA Award competition. Everyone who attends always learns something new or a new twist on an old idea. We will meet in the SCLS Blue Room for coffee at 9:30 and the meeting from 10-12.

Long Island Library Conference 2020

 

The Long Island Library Conference will be held  at the Melville Marriott on May 14th, 2020.

We are delighted to announce that author, literary critic, and “America’s librarian,” Nancy Pearl, will be the keynote speaker for the 2020 Long Island Library Conference.

The Long Island Library Conference is an educational forum for all those who work in and for libraries. Held annually to provide innovative and informational programs as well as networking opportunities to improve the quality of the public, special, school and university libraries of Long Island, the Conference is organized and sponsored by the Suffolk County Library Association (SCLA) and the Nassau County Library Association (NCLA).
