Seed libraries are popping up all around Long Island. Libraries are realizing seed libraries are a great way to engage gardeners in our community. We are also traditionally very good at saving, collecting and sharing items! What’s the best way to operate a seed library? Let’s get together to discuss best practices and share our ideas!

The Suffolk Library Marketing Award recognizes the Best Public Relations
Marketing Campaign by a Public or Academic Library in Suffolk County, a
commission of the Public Relations and Marketing Committee of the Reference
and Adult Services Division of the Suffolk County Library Association,
a Regional Chapter of the New York Library Association.
The deadline of September 15, 2019 is just around the corner. Be sure to go to rasdpr.wordpress.com and start working on your entrance application for the SLMA Award. It is an easy application and before you know it you can have the bragging rights to being the best in Suffolk County.

This conference is designed for library employees of any level who are involved in marketing, communication, public relations, social media, and outreach in academic, public, and special libraries. Our guest speaker, Annelies Kamran, PhD, will present a brief tour of the history, politics, economics, and culture of some of the largest new immigrant communities on Long Island. This is a great opportunity to begin developing cultural competency in interacting with and serving our diverse society.

The next New Adult Committee meeting will be held on Monday, April 15th at SCLS. Coffee/ tea will be at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. Graduate social work interns from the Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare will speak about having social workers in your library.
