In this lecture and demonstration class, you’ll get an introduction to some of the popular social media sites.You’ll learn how to create an account, connect with family and friends and how to be safe and secure socializing online. No prerequisites.
$10.00 for non-members and $1.00 for SCLA members who would like to join SSD.

Plan an effective marketing campaign to draw patrons back to your library.

Monday, June 7, 2021 from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m.

Even if your library never completely closed, you will want to alert your community (even those without internet access) when your building and services are back in full force.

Our guest speaker, Kathy Dempsey, is a nationally known for her knowledge of library marketing and publicity. She is the author of The Accidental Library Marketer, and a frequent speaker at ALA.

The presentation will help you plan an effective marketing campaign to draw patrons back to your libraries. This virtual session will offer guidance, ideas, and a marketing plan template that is ready to fill in and roll out.

This is a joint program with RASD of SCLA’s PR & Marketing Committee and the NCLA PR/Programming Division.

It is free for SCLA & NCLA members, otherwise $10. CEUs will be awarded.

New Professional Development Series Program Added

NCLA Intellectual Freedom Committee
Dr. Seuss: Cut Him Loose?
Wednesday, May 19 at 2:00 pm.
60 minutes
Join the Intellectual Freedom Committee for a program during our May Professional Development series hosted by NCLA, SCLA and CLASC. A panel of librarians will discuss the issues involving intellectual freedom, collection development and programming which arose from recent controversy related to Dr. Seuss’ (Theodore Geisel) and other materials.

Purpose: The ELSA is designed to recognize dedication to public service demonstrated by any staff member of a public, school, special or academic library. We welcome nominations submitted by any employee of a Suffolk County library or any Suffolk County library patron.

Eligibility: Pages, clerks, librarians and trainees, as well as office, custodial and security staff from any Suffolk County library are eligible.

To Qualify: The nominee must work at least 17 hours per week and have worked a minimum of one year in his/her current position. People who have been nominated in the past may be nominated again.

Criteria: Outstanding public service may be demonstrated by fostering team spirit, exemplary job performance, promoting goodwill among patrons and staff, or an innovative approach to one’s work.

Nominations must be submitted by July 31, 2021
