October 5, 2017 – TIF (Technology Information Forum) Meeting

October’s TIF meeting will take place at The John Jermain Library in Sag Harbor on Thursday, October 5, 2017.

Jesse Reinard from the Connetquot Library will be discussing the implementation and success of his Raspberry Pi/Retro Pi program.  Additionally, Eric Cohen from John Jermain will show us his new facility.  Remember it’s 9:30 for coffee and refreshments and 10am for the meeting.  If you can’t make the meeting, we will stream it on the TIF facebook page as well. Hope to see everyone there.

I also wanted to mention that next month (Can November be around the corner already?) we are holding another joint Nassau/Suffolk technology meeting with NCLA.  This meeting will be at the Smithtown Library’s King’s Park Branch.  So bring your success stories, setbacks and maybe even bring in some tech to show off!!  That meeting is a “don’t miss”.

TIF Meeting,Thursday October 6th at Half Hollow Hills

This month’s Technology Information Forum will be held on Thursday October 6, 2016 at the Half Hollow Hills Community Library in Dix Hills, 9:30 for coffee and 10am for meeting. This month, in light of the release of IOS 10, the discussion will be centered around the level of assistance information technology and librarians provide regarding updating devices for patrons.  Do you go “all in” or do you have a handout, or are you strictly hands off?  Lets talk about updates on electronic devices, whether its phones, tablets, laptops or other devices (yes even GPS devices).

Also a topic for conversation, what do you do with your old technology?  Once computers, monitors, keyboards and/or projectors are upgraded, how does your library dispose of them.  Lets talk about how each library goes about this and think of creative ways to repurpose this technology.

Additionally, we always welcome questions and comments for the group with problems, suggestions, innovations and other input from the group. Come join us, won’t you?

TIF Meeting – Thursday, February 5, 2015 – Sachem Public Library

The February Technology Information Forum meeting is scheduled for this Thursday at the Sachem Public Library. Chris DeCrisofaro will be our host and will open up with a lively presentation entitled “Makerspace: It’s more than just a 3D Printer”
Why a makerspace? What is the need for this? Is now the right time? How would a library go about starting this initiative? What would the steps be to logistically roll out a makerspace and see it through to completion? We will have insight into the answers behind these questions and so much more at our next meeting.
Please join us for what promises to be a very lively discussion among your peers and professionals.
