Eileen is a graduate of LIU Post and earned her MLS in 2005. She earned a BS degree in education from Dowling college in 1995 and taught in a classroom for over ten years. Eileen is currently the part time reference and instructional librarian at LIU Brentwood campus library.  She was formerly a librarian at TOURO College in Bay Shore where she was responsible for collection, circulation, research, information literacy, training on library systems, handling the weekly & monthly statistical reports, and information retrieval.  Eileen previously managed project services at public schools and public community offices. Eileen spent a good deal of time seeking innovative ways to cope with budget crunches. She ran her father’s construction business for several years during his illness, writes on environment for the juvenile collection (unpublished), enjoys reading about home construction and remodeling, and assists her husband cooking delicious Italian meals.  Eileen also held numerous volunteer positions within and out of libraries where she held the treasurer position in 2004 and 2005 for SSLMA. Other volunteer work includes programs such as Canine Companions and presentations on training and career development for high school students transitioning to college.  “My goal is to find ways that libraries can generate funds to do more with less” I am happy to be nominated for the treasury position for CATS and will do a superb job while in office.

Don’t Fear the eBook
A public services perspective

Presented by the Computer and Technical Services Division of SCLA

You can’t escape from them, can’t avoid them and can’t run from them. Library systems have started adopting and adapting to this new digital marketplace.

Support and service may be easier than you think.
Come join us as we talk about how libraries are teaching patrons and distributing this technology and how we might be using it in the future.

The program will describe the basic barriers that patrons and staff face connecting patrons to our eBook collection. Presenters will also talk about their success in distributing eBook readers to their patrons and their experiences.

Cataloging Roundtable Discussion Results from March 29th Meeting

Among the topics discussed were:

Correct way to catalog two novels in one volume, e.g., A Temporary Wife, A Promise of Spring?

How to assign Place of Publication for self-published CDs (e.g.,Panic of Girls)?

Correct way to assign pagination in the the 300 field?

How do we type symbols over foreign names?

How do we catalog games (e.g., Deluxe Wooden Chess Set)

What do you do if a title has a word crossed out as a joke (e.g., The diva code : Miss Piggy on life, love, and the 10,000 idiotic things

men frogs do).

The Roundtable is intended as a free and open exchange of ideas on best practices in cataloging. We do not make cataloging policy for PALS, SCLA, or any other library or consortium, what we do is solve cataloging problems we encounter in our day-to-day endeavors through application of AACR2, the fledgling RDA, MARC, and other cataloging standards. We’ve been holding forth since 2005.

Our next meeting takes place on Tuesday, October 30th.
